Biocodex Microbiota Foundation 2024

“The microbiome in human health and diseases”

Definition

Biocodex is historically involved in research on gut microbiota.

With a mission of advancing the research and understanding of human microbiota, the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation is calling on inspired researchers at Canadian institutions in the microbiome field to submit proposals for funding their projects. For 2024, the Canadian grant will be awarded to an investigator studying a 1 to 2-year long research project within the topic of microbiome in human health and diseases.

Studies in translational animal models are encouraged.

Price

The total grant amount is 25,000 € (approximately 36 000 CAD).

Candidates

Applicants for this award must hold an MD, PhD, and/or equivalent degree (e.g., MBChB, MBBS, DO).

Applicants must be full-time faculty or equivalent position at an institution in Canada by the start date of this award.

Applicants must classify as "early career" according to the following criteria:

• MD (or equivalent) applicants are considered "early career" if no more than seven years have elapsed following the completion of clinical training (GI fellowship or its equivalent) and the start date of this award
• PhD (or equivalent) applicants are considered "early career" if no more than seven years have elapsed following the conferment of the PhD degree and the start date of this award.
• An appropriately documented leave of absence, such as parental or medical leave, will not be counted toward the above seven-year eliigibility criteria.

Applicants performing any type of research (basic, translational, clinical) relevant to microbiota are strongly encouraged to apply.

The grant is intended as a seeding or bridging grant, to help investigators initiate a project to become independent.

• For new investigators (PDF or Assistant Professor rank), a cover letter that includes applicant career goals and how this grant will help them with their academic and research career/goals

Applications in French, with mandatory lay summary in English, will be accepted.

Incomplete application forms will not be considered.

Candidate engagement

The Applicant agrees to inform the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation of any financing that has already been received for this project, or a request for funding to another structure.

The Applicant agrees to submit a 1-year interim report of research work to the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation. The final report is due at 18 months of initiating the project. He/she also agrees to send the final report of the study to the Foundation within six months of the close of the project.

The Applicant will mention the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation’s support in any communication or publication of their work with the following sentence: “This work was (partially) supported by the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation.” The Applicant will send copies of these communications or publications to the Foundation.

The Applicant authorizes the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation to publicize its support for their proposal and grants both on the Foundation website and through other means by uploading the non-confidential summary of the proposal.

If for any reason the winning study needs to be discontinued, the Applicant agrees to promptly (within 3 days of the decision) communicate this to the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation.

Jury

The national scientific board, composed of independent scientists, will review the applications and select the grant winner.

The national scientific board’s decision is final and will not be contested.

Attribution

The deadline for sending applications by email is August 31^st, 2024.

The jury will make their decision by September 30^th, 2024.

“Le microbiome dans la santé et les maladies chez l’être humain”

Définition

Biocodex est de longue date activement engagée dans la recherche sur le microbiote intestinal.

Ayant pour mission de faire progresser la recherche et la compréhension du microbiote humain, la Fondation du microbiote de Biocodex invite les chercheurs inspirés œuvrant au sein d’établissements canadiens dans le domaine du microbiome à soumettre des propositions en vue du financement de leurs projets.

En 2024, la bourse canadienne sera accordée à un chercheur effectuant un projet de recherche d’un à deux ans portant sur le microbiome dans la santé et les maladies chez l'être humain. Nous encourageons les candidats à soumettre des projets d’études basées sur des modèles animaux translationnels.

Montant

La valeur totale de la bourse est de 25 000 € (approximativement 36 000 CAD).

Candidats

Les candidats à ce prix doivent être titulaires d’un doctorat en médecine, d'un doctorat et/ou d'un diplôme équivalent (par exemple, MBChB, MBBS, DO).

Les candidats doivent effectuer leurs recherches dans une université ou institution canadienne à temps plein à la date de début de cette bourse.

Les candidats doivent être en "début de carrière" selon les critères suivants :

• Les candidats MD (ou équivalent) sont considérés comme "en début de carrière" si pas plus de sept ans ne se sont écoulés après la fin de la formation clinique (bourse en GI ou son équivalent) et à la date de début de cette bourse.
• Les candidats au doctorat (ou équivalent) sont considérés comme "en début de carrière" si pas plus de sept ans ne se sont écoulés depuis l'attribution du doctorat et la date de début de cette bourse.
• Un congé autorisé dûment documenté, tel qu'un congé parental ou médical, ne sera pas pris en compte dans les critères d'admissibilité de sept ans ci-dessus.

Les candidats effectuant tout type de recherche (fondamentale, translationnelle, clinique) pertinent au microbiote sont fortement encouragés à postuler.

La bourse a pour un but d'apporter une aide ou une subvention à des chercheurs afin d'initier leur projet de devenir indépendant.

Formulaire de demande

La demande comprend les documents suivants :

• un formulaire de demande dûment rempli, cliquez ici pour télécharger le formulaire en format doc;
• le CV abrégé du commun des IRSC du candidat principal;
• pour les nouveaux chercheurs (titulaires d’une bourse doctorale ou titre de professeur adjoint), une lettre d’accompagnement indiquant les objectifs de carrière du candidat et la manière dont cette bourse l’aidera à accomplir ses objectifs universitaires et de carrière en recherche.

Les demandes rédigées en français, obligatoirement accompagnées d’un résumé non scientifique en anglais, seront acceptées.

Les formulaires de demande incomplets ne seront pas examinés.

Les membres du jury pourraient demander des renseignements supplémentaires.

Engagements du candidat

Le candidat consent à informer la Fondation du microbiote de Biocodex de tout financement déjà obtenu relativement à ce projet ou de toute demande de financement présentée à un autre organisme.

Le candidat consent à soumettre à la Fondation du microbiote de Biocodex un rapport d’étape sur ses travaux de recherche après un an. Le rapport définitif doit être présenté 18 mois après le lancement du projet. Il/Elle s’engage également à transmettre le rapport définitif de l’étude à la Fondation dans les six mois précédant la fin du projet.

Le candidat doit mentionner le soutien de la Fondation du microbiote de Biocodex dans toute communication ou publication de ses travaux avec la phrase suivante : « Ces travaux ont été réalisés (en partie) avec le soutien de la Fondation du microbiote de Biocodex. » Le candidat doit faire parvenir des copies de ces communications ou publications à la Fondation.

Il autorise la Fondation du microbiote de Biocodex à annoncer son soutien à sa proposition et à sa bourse sur le site Web de la Fondation et par d’autres moyens en téléversant le résumé non confidentiel de la proposition.

Si, pour quelque raison que ce soit, l’étude lauréate doit être interrompue, le candidat s’engage à aviser la Fondation du microbiote de Biocodex rapidement (dans les trois jours suivant la décision).

Jury

Le conseil scientifique national, composé de chercheurs indépendants, examinera les demandes et désignera le récipiendaire de la bourse.

Remise du prix

La date limite d’envoi des demandes par courrier électronique est le 31 août 2024.

Le jury délibérera en 30 septembre 2024.
